It really does make a difference how you hold the striker. Keep in mind that with some strikers, (particularly those that are made of thicker steel), you need to hold it at an angle so that the sharp edge can dig in.

Here’s a bit more helpful info on fire starting and the Strike Force. We were just out backpacking and a 12 year old actually rubbed her finger raw trying to use a plain ferro rod. Someone offered her the Strike Force and she loved it because of the nice handle on the striker. Just another benefit of the design on this one.

I really like this fire starting flint. The thing ought to last forever, too. It is a bit bulky, but you get the “secret compartment” for storing tinder, so that seems to even things out.
